Kora, cello (and sheep): Bamako's wonderful night music

Malian kora player Ballaké Sissoko and French cellist Vincent Segal have just released a very beautiful album called Musique de Nuit (Night Music).

After the huge international success of their first collaboration, Chamber Music (2009), they have spent years touring together.

The first album featured several guests but for Musique de Nuit they only invited Malian star Babani Koné to sing one song.

Uninvited but present in several songs is the occasional contribution of a sheep or two in the background, as one of the recording sessions took place at night on Sissoko’s rooftop in Bamako, Mali’s capital.

Vincent Segal told BBC Africa’s Salim Kikeke why they decided to record outdoors.
